The Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries’ internal quality audit preparation meeting on the integrated management system was a success.

Makassar, 5 June 2024 – The Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries held a preparatory meeting for the implementation of the Integrated Management System (SMT) within the faculty today. The meeting, which was attended by all levels of the dean, heads of study programmes, and representatives from various related units, took place in the GPMPR Room on the 3rd Floor of the FIKP Dean’s Building.

The agenda of this meeting discusses the documents that needed to be prepared for the SMT Audit. There are varied documents needed to be prepared because this system has accommodated several ISOs such as ISO 21001: 2018, ISO 27001: 2016, ISO 37001, and ISO 45001: 2018. However, the time given was relatively short so the committee is urged to put more efforts to prepare the documents in these few weeks.

During the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Prof Safruddin, S.Pi., MP, Ph.D., conveyed the importance of SMT implementation in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of work in the faculty. ‘This Integrated Management System will help us to coordinate various operational processes better, so that it can support the achievement of the vision and mission of the faculty,’ he said.

On this occasion, the Chairperson of GPMPR, Dr. Nursinah Amir, S.Pi., MP. also emphasised that the implementation of this SMT will cover several important aspects, including: (1) Quality Management: To ensure that all educational and administrative processes run according to established standards; (2) Environmental Management: In order to support the green and environmentally friendly campus programme; (3) Occupational Health and Safety Management: To ensure the safety and welfare of the entire academic community.

In the meeting the committee that has been appointed to help implement SMT in the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, also had an opportunity to explain the stages that must be passed, starting from initial assessment, staff training, to system evaluation and maintenance.

‘This process is not easy and requires cooperation from all parties. However, with a strong commitment, we believe the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries can be an example for other faculties in the implementation of SMT,’ said Dr Nursinah Amir, Chair of GPMPR.

In the discussion session, various questions and inputs from the meeting participants were conveyed. Some of them were related to the integration of existing management systems, training for teaching and education personnel, and communication strategies to ensure all parties understand and support this programme.

The meeting ended with conclusions and assignments for each related unit. ‘I hope all units can immediately develop their respective work plans and report their progress regularly. We must all work together for the successful implementation of this Integrated Management System,’ Dr Nursinah Amir concluded.

With well preparation, the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries is optimistic that the implementation of this SMT will run smoothly and have a positive impact on improving the quality of education and administrative services on campus.
